The Symbolism

Contact Us

The graphic on the race materials and sweatshirt was designed
in 1988 by resident marble sculptor Greg Tonozzi, in memory
of Teeny Jueng.  Teeny was a Glenwood Springs City Council
member and the Valley View Hospital emergency room
supervisor.  She was killed in January, 1988 in an avalanche
  near Pearl Pass.

Teeny was a very special person to all of Glenwood Springs.  She
gave100 percent to everything she did and everyone she knew.
Hers was a giving , caring , doing and sharing life. Her memory
continually give strength to those of us who put together the Tri
  Glenwood triathlon.

Teeny was very enlightened and widely traveled.  The shaded
wave which divides the circle suggest the yin-yang concept of
totality of being as well as being symbolic of the swim.  The
spokes fanning out in the lower left represent the bike portion
of the event and the feet represent the run.  In designing the
logo,  Greg insisted that the feet remain bare to remind us of
the nakedness with which we come into life.  Symbolically
one foot is in the wave and one out of it remind us that we
always stand with one foot in the world and one foot in the next.

We hope your understanding of this symbolism will give you
much strength on race day and as you wear your shirt.
